What is Neurodivergence?
Neurodivergence simply means that some brains work differently than others. This can include experiences of ADHD, autism, dyslexia, OCD, and more.
At Fresh Path NY, our clinicians believe neurodivergence highlights the diversity in how people think, learn, and interact with the world and we aren’t here to “fix” anyone’s neurodivergence. We’re here to help neurodivergent clients understand themselves and their brains better and embrace who they are, while also learning strategies which assist in navigating an ableist/neurotypical society.
We want to know your experiences, your understanding of self, and help provide language which aids in that journey.
Neurodivergent individuals often face challenges in environments designed for neurotypical brains, and therapy can provide crucial support.
How Therapy Supports Neurodivergent Individuals
- Self-Awareness and Psychoeducation: Better understand how your brain works and how it impacts your life better, while unlearning internalized ableism/neurotypical-ism
- Executive Functioning: Learn how to work with your brain to get important tasks done
- Cultural Differences and Intersectionalities: We take your identities, cultural and familial background into account when exploring how your neurodivergence presents.
- Identifying Triggers and Emotional Regulation: Recognize triggers, as well as learn to express and manage intense emotions .
- Social Skills: Understand how your brain processes social interactions, communicate better and engage or disengage more intentionally
- Sensory Processing: Identify triggers and develop coping skills for over and under stimulation, sensory yeses and nos
- Anxiety & Stress: A space to express and manage the stress and exhaustion of living in an ableist and neurotypical world
